Rescue Men - The Story of the Pea Island Life Savers - A Film by Allan R. Smith
Rescue Men Movie Poster
Incredible, two thumbs up.
Wingspan Magazine
Director Allan Smith and his documentary not only does a great job of giving a detailed background on the stations crew but also helps the audience to realize the merit and many accomplishments of our nation's smallest military branch. It also provided a chance for North Carolina locals to shine having citizens lend their talent as the voice overs for the film instead of Hollywood professionals. With aspects such as this, the film gives back to the Pea Island area in more than one way.

You never know who might just be there to pull you out of the water. I award this film with "5 unexpected life savers out of 5."

"Rescue Men – The Story of the Pea Island Life Savers" is a 60-minute documentary recognizing the extraordinary historical significance of the Pea Island Life-Saving Station.

Before there was the Coast Guard, the U.S. Life-Saving Service kept watch over the Atlantic Coast. In the Outer Banks, one team of surfmen stood out for their courage and the color of their skin. The all-black crew of Station 17 on Pea Island saved scores of lives. But their daring went unrecognized in the post-reconstruction South.

Rescue Men is the story of the men that manned the Pea Island Life-Saving Station on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Due to the heroics and accomplishments of these brave men and others like them in the U.S. Life-Saving Service, we now have what is called "The United States Coast Guard."
